Here's What 30 Days of 100 Situps Did to This Guy's Body

As part of his mission to get a “godlike” six-pack, YouTuber Isaiah Photo took on a popular fitness challenge to work his abs; 100 situps every day, for 30 days. He soon learned, though, that there’s more to building muscle than simply doing endless crunches.

The first thing he had to do was break down the 100 reps into a more manageable number. “I wasn’t able to do the 100 situps without stopping, so what I would do is I would do as many as I could, then I would stop for 20 or 30 seconds, and then I would continue to do the situps until I hit the 100 mark,” he says.

“It didn’t really take me very long, maybe 5 or 6 minutes tops, so I really think that anybody could do this,” he continues. “With repetition, the situps just became easier and easier, like anything else.”

Isaiah maintained the same weight for the duration of the challenge, and after 30 days of 100 situps, he’s disappointed to see no real visible difference, aside from some a slight reduction in fat. “My jeans got a little bit looser,” he says, “but I still do not have six-pack abs.” He adds that, of course, diet is also a key factor that cannot be understated in building visible six-pack abs.

Another issue here is that repetition alone does not lead to gains. As Isaiah realizes, progression is needed:

“Basically, if you keep doing the same workout over and over and over again, if you’re not adding more weights, if you’re not making it more difficult for your body to do it, you just get used to it, your muscles get used to it, and when your muscles aren’t being strained, when they’re not actually breaking apart and making more room for muscle to grow, you’re really just doing maintenance. Which isn’t a bad thing, it’s still good for you, but you’re not necessarily going to get any bigger.”

“If you want to keep building muscle anywhere on your body, you need to keep increasing the weights and making it more difficult,” he concludes. “That’s hard to do in situps, because all you have is your own bodyweight.”
