LeBron James Revealed What His Average Weekday Workout Looks Like

While it still remains uncertain when—or even if—fans will see the return of professional sports in 2020, star athletes continue to train as if their seasons could resume tomorrow. On Thursday, four-time NBA MVP LeBron James gave his followers a glimpse of at least one routine he’s following at home while in self-isolation from COVID-19.

Unfortunately, King James didn’t share a look at his actual home gym. Given the mix of cable work highlighted in his Instagram story, however, it’s fair to assume that the Lakers power forward keeps more equipment on-hand than you might find in the average garage workout space.

The routine includes three rounds each of kneeling cable push/pulls (8 per side), 10 pushups, a ball crunch (with squeeze), a three-point renegade row, a kneeling cable reverse fly, lateral band walks, a standing barbell curl, and a 30-second leg mat balance. For some additional cardio, James also threw in six rounds of 30-second sprints on what appears to be his trusty VersaClimber.

As Men’s Health fitness director Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S., points out, it’s actually a pretty well-rounded routine for the three-time NBA champ. “He has more equipment than most of our readers, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn a few things. Look at how much he’s emphasizing pull in this workout, with the renegade rows, cable push-pull work, and cable reverse flies,” Samuel says. “That’s three pulling exercises because pulling is so important for your long-term health.”

Samuel also notes that James is getting plenty of stability work with the ball crunch, lateral band walks, and renegade rows. “He’s attacking his core every moment possible—people should look to do the same if they can.”
