Here’s What 100 Pushups and 50 Pullups a Day Did to This Guy’s Body
After going through a period of being quite inconsistent and disorganized in his training, fitness influencer Lucas (also known to YouTube as Pigmie) decided to set himself a simple challenge in order to bring some structure and discipline back to his workout routine. He assigned himself the daily goal of 100 pushups and 50 pullups, which he performed for a full week to determine whether it would have any noticeable impact on his physique.
He breaks the total of 150 reps into supersets of 20 pushups and 10 pullups, with 90 seconds of rest in between each round. But while he starts strong and takes just 16 and a half minutes to finish the workout on the first day, the cumulative fatigue and soreness throughout the week mean that he ends up taking longer and longer to complete all 150 reps.
“A lot of the time when you do the exact same workout over and over and over again, you will plateau quite quickly, and if done too frequently, you might not give your body enough rest between workout sessions to properly fully recover,” he says. “However, I know myself, and I know the amount of volume that I’m doing should be low enough where I should be able to recover within 24 to 48 hours.”
At the end of the week, Lucas says he has managed to grow his chest by a full inch (crediting that at least partially to muscle memory). And while he is still unable to hit his previous pushup max after the challenge, he feels he has made progress all the same.
“Even if it’s really sucking to do something that you know is going to benefit you in the long run, really take a moment to think about how you’re going to feel one month, two months, three months from now,” he says. “No excuses, the best time to take action is now. Don’t overcomplicate things, just get started.”
