Giada De Laurentiis & Daughter Jade Tried the Pancake Cereal Trend

If you’re running out of ideas for both breakfast and fun at-home activities for yourself and your kids, Giada De Laurentiis and her 12-year-old daughter, Jade De Laurentiis-Thompson, have an easy idea for you: Pancake cereal.

The mother-daughter duo tried out the TikTok-famous idea in an Instagram video on Saturday morning. “Have you guys seen the pancake cereal thing on the internet?” Jade asks in the beginning of the video.

“‘Cause we’re gonna make it!” her mom says in a follow up.

The premise couldn’t be easier, and only requires ingredients you likely have on hand already. Start by making your favorite pancake batter — while the hearty mix De Laurentiis used appears to be her healthy quinoa pancake recipe, using boxed mix totally counts! Then, pour the mix into a squeeze bottle, and fry up teeny-tiny pancakes in batches. It helps if you have a small spatula to target each circle of batter as it cooks.

As De Laurentiis explained in the video’s caption, the result is “a tad bit tedious, but a lot bit delicious!”

This isn’t the first time the duo have put a lilliputian spin on homemade cereal: A few days ago, they chopped up pre-made cookie dough to make chocolate chip cookie cereal. As with pancake cereal, the key here is scale, and only requires you to chop up the dough into smaller portions than the pre-scored serving sizes. Watch the cookies as they bake to make sure they don’t burn, and in no time you’ll have a DIY treat that rivals a box of Cookie Crisp.

De Laurentiis has been busy serving up plenty of kid-friendly and healthy recipe ideas, including a pasta that helps kids get excited about eating their daily servings of veggies. She’s also been cleaning up her pantry and stocking it up with staples like water and grain-free tortilla chips — all great starting points for your own quarantine restock.
