The Mountain Just Bench Pressed His Wife While Getting a Tattoo
Anybody who’s ever had a tattoo will tell you that sitting in the artist’s chair can get real boring, real fast. Fortunately, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (commonly known as “The Mountain”) found a novel way to pass the time during his latest inking session: by bench pressing his wife, Kelsey Henson.
Björnson shared a video of his appointment on Instagram, accompanied by a caption where he pretended to be counting reps: “69… 70,71 easy weight!! Using my wife as weight while getting tattoooed! No rest for the wicked!”

Scientists have found some evidence that having tattoos can actually negatively affect your workouts because they inhibit the body’s ability to sweat properly, but Björnsson doesn’t seem particularly bothered as he hoists Henson up over and over. Of course, lifting whole human beings over his head is one of Björnsson’s favorite party tricks. Earlier this year, he reunited with musician Ed Sheeran (who also had a brief appearance on Game of Thrones, the show that gave the Mountain his nickname) in Iceland, and hauled him up in an effortless-looking overhead press.

In fact, the Mountain’s lifting abilities are kind of legendary. During the final season of Game of Thrones, which included the long-awaited “Cleganebowl” smackdown, the former World’s Strongest Man title winner showed off his 132 pound dumbbell press—and that was nothing compared to the 805 pound deadlift he pulled off ahead of World’s Strongest Man 2019.
In comparison, lifting his wife is a piece of cake. Not that Mrs. Mountain is just some blushing damsel: she might look tiny next to her husband, but she can more than hold her own. In August, Henson marked leg day by single-handedly hauling a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Because couples who move heavy shit together, stay together.
