Joe Burrow Is Getting Called Out for Having Tiny Hands at the NFL Combine

The NFL Scouting Combine 2020 is underway this week in Indianapolis, and former LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow is rumored to be this year’s #1 draft pick. But its his hands that are making headlines, specifically for their size.

According to ESPN, the QB Hand-Size Myth was alive and well as news broke Monday that Burrow’s hand measured in at 9 inches, the smallest since 2008, when Ryan Tannehill and Jared Goff also measured in at that size.

The hand measurements, taken from the length of the pinkie to thumb, are supposedly an indicator for quarterbacks’ fumble rate and overall NFL performance. And as ESPN writer David Fleming notes, “…there is no biological or kinetic proof that hand size correlates in any way to hand strength.”

However, the measurements still spur NFL scouts into a frenzy, as Burrow found out. Burrow was quickly in the headlines for his measurements and was also quick to make a joke of the scenario on Twitter, where it was trending.

Considering retirement after I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts.

Burrow tweeted, “Considering retirement after I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts.”

My small hands are doing alright so far….i believe in ya 😂😂😂 https://t.co/o0UUwkSeOq

The tweet gained a response from Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, whose hand measured in at 9 1/4 inches when he attended the combine in 2017, replied, “My small hands are doing alright so far…. i believe in ya 😂😂😂.”
