Why Being On Your Phone While Ordering Your Coffee Could Cause Weight Gain

Admit it. You all do it.

Replying to work emails or tapping through Insta stories whilst ordering your morning joe is pretty much standard practice.

But a mindless AM routine could be the reason you’re not seeing results despite a religious healthy meal prep and quinoa overload.

New research from The Royal Society for Public Health found that 34% of people are falling victim to coffee shop ‘up-selling’—where baristas encourage customers to upsize their caffeine fix for a minimal fee.

Sound familiar? Only 70 cents more for a venti Skinny Latte? Why not.

The findings suggest that eight in 10 people experience it every week, with the average person who goes large consuming an average of 17,000 extra calories over 12 months.

That’s enough to gain an extra 2.3kg a year.

Next time you order your Tall, Iced, Sugar-Free, Vanilla Latte With Soy Milk (duh) and get drawn in with the value for money card, watch out.

Maybe you don’t want venti, after all.
