8 Mom Food Bloggers to Follow for Major Recipe Inspiration

Coming up with creative recipes to make for your family every day is hard. I’m a new mom, and I never realized how different spending time in the kitchen would be once I had a kid — instead of oscillating between spending one night pulling together an elaborate all-day project and then one night eating nothing but a bowl of cereal for dinner, I suddenly needed an army of recipes that are easy, kid-friendly, fast and healthy. And I never have time to research them like I used to. Luckily for me, Instagram exists, and I’ve added a ton of mom chefs to my follow list to get their genius ideas that check all those boxes. Following these women has increased my confidence in the kitchen, given me countless suggestions and made me excited about cooking for everyone in my family. Give them a follow, and hopefully, they can help you too.

I had this fun thought of doing a “eat it three ways” series where I pick something and show you how I repurpose it three different ways. Might need a more creative title ?… . I don’t think I have my feet underneath me quite yet in order to actually plan and implement the series, but if I do, the @traderjoes Harvest Grain Blend *NTK Edition* is first on the docket! . HARVEST GRAIN WARM KALE SALAD . I took approx 2 c lacinato kale and thoroughly massaged it (see last weeks video if you need a visual ?) in a mixture of 2 Tbs EVOO + 1 Tbs lemon juice + 1 minced garlic cube* . For the record, the organic lacinato kale at @wholefoodscharleston is absolutely unreal. So green and fresh. I can get enough! I use my kale destemmer (see product links story) and prepping the kale takes no time at all. . I actually did this the night before but you could do it 30 minutes before as well. . I then heated up 1.5 c of the the leftover harvest grain blend (my recipe is on my blog and the substitutions I did in this particular batch are one post back). I tossed the kale in once the grains were heated. The warm grains further soften the kale and make the the most delicious and filling warm kale salad. Add in options are endless, but I kept it simple. Truly delicious! I think this would go perfectly with a nice steak meal. . *the minced garlic cubes are in the frozen section at many grocery stores. They are Dorot brand. I get mine @traderjoes and oh my word they make like so much easier!!!

Kate is a mom of three who — you guessed it — uses her kids’ nap time to cook up experiments in the kitchen. Moms and kids alike love her “daily green” smoothies, a great way to get even the most veggie-averse to enjoy them.

Kelly, @justataste

Kelly, who runs Just a Taste, has two boys who are both great eaters. She shares the recipes that make them enjoy food so much (and their sometimes-amusing eating habits — I’m still laughing at one of her sons dipping his ice cream cone in peas for dessert) on her gorgeously photographed account.

Ashley, @veggiesandvirtue

Ashley is a pediatric dietitian and mom who created a program called Love It, Like It, Learning It to help kids get introduced to new foods. She doesn’t post many recipes, but she does give tons of ideas, from creative plating (her kids love eating out of muffin tins — who knew?) to tips and tricks for converting a “learning-it food” to a “love-it food” by “food chaining.” I’ve learned so much following her.

Paige Fowler, @food4tots

Fowler’s food4tots account is simple, but that’s what makes it so helpful. She shows what she made for her two boys, plated, and what they ate. (I love an after shot to get an idea of what is realistic) When she makes a recipe, she often shares it right in the caption — or links to other mamas with great ideas too.

If you got an Instant Pot for Christmas and don’t know what to do with it, Gilmore will become your new best friend. She literally wrote the cookbook! I actually don’t have an Instant Pot, and I still love following her. Her grain-free baked pancakes are an all-time fave in my house.

Catherine McCord, @weelicious

McCord is a major smoothie advocate, so if you’re looking for blender ideas, she’s your gal. Her #smoothieproject is one of my favorite places for combo suggestions. But she’s got lots of other recipe inspo to share too, from school lunches to homemade baby food.

Even though you probably have no clue what day it is, what you’re supposed to be wearing (pajamas? Sparkly top? Liz’s specialty is healthy copycat recipes of less healthy favorites, like stir-fry or a Shamrock Shake. And her account is beautiful.

Rachel Mansfield, @rachlmansfield

Technically, Mansfield is a mama-to-be, but she’s definitely worth a follow if you like dessert — her feed is full of health-ified sweets that are made with clean ingredients and will fuel you through pregnancy, parenting or whatever else your day throws at you. My fave recipe is paleo cookie dough bars!
