The Rock Teased How ‘Black Adam’ Will Make His Muscles Look Scary Jacked
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson doesn’t need any help from CGI to convince people that he’s been putting in the work in the gym (and fueling appropriately) over the past few months while preparing to play the titular antihero in DC’s upcoming blockbuster Black Adam.
Still, when you’re playing a character known for being an archenemy of Captain Marvel—and one you’ve routinely declared will “change the hierarchy of power” in the DC universe—it never hurts to have a little extra Hollywood magic on your side.
In a new Instagram post, the Rock shared a preview of how his makeup and CGI artists plan to take his gains—and his guns—to the next level during some of the movie’s key fight scenes. In the accompanying photo, Johnson is shown standing shirtless next to a crew member applying a series of CGI special effects dots across his shredded torso.
“Minutes away from shooting a very cool cutting edge scene for our movie, Black Adam. My skilled make up artist, Bjoern Rehbein is applying tiny white tracking dots to very specific areas of my body (legs included) so our Visual Effects team track and compute my muscle fibers intensely activating and moving while Black Adam is raging to seek & destroy his enemies,” he wrote in the post’s caption.

“This is the final week of production and the hard work with my training, diet, and conditioning has been relentless—hardest of my career because I’ve had to maintain this physical look for months and had to peak in my final week,” he added. “But our collective goal is to raise the bar with Black Adam. To deliver the antihero you’ve been waiting for and you deserve. Final week of production. The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change. Do not go gentle.”
While plot details are still slowly trickling out, the film is widely thought to be both a sequel and a spinoff of 2019’s Shazam! starring Zachary Levi. Black Adam is currently scheduled to be released in July 2022.
