Anne Hathaway Just Revealed The Exact Moment She Quit Being Vegan—And It Involves Matt Damon

  • Anne Hathaway quit veganism while in Iceland with Matt Damon.
  • Anne started her vegan diet while preparing for her role as Catwoman.
  • The actress now sticks to a Paleo-focused diet to feel strong and energized.

Anne Hathaway previously revealed why she quit drinking, but in a new interview for Tatler’s June issue, the Princess Diaries star shared why she quit veganism, too.

The story goes that while she was out with her husband, Adam Schulman, and Interstellar co-star Matt Damon, she was offered salmon at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Reykjavik, Iceland. Matt said he would eat anything placed in front of him.

“So then I was the only chick and I’m the vegan and everyone’s just going with the flow,” she told Tatler. “So I asked [she puts on a small embarrassed voice]: ‘Is your fish local?’ And they said: ‘Do you see that fjord?’ So I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting.”

While filming Interstellar, her space suit weighed 40 pounds, and she had to get fit in order to wear it every day on set. She previously told the fish story to Harper’s Bazaar, and said while vegan, “I just didn’t feel good or healthy…not strong.”

Check out these celebs who still follow a vegan diet:

Anne first embraced a vegan lifestyle following her role as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. In preparation for the film, she followed an “almost-vegan” diet. “In Anne’s case, she’s a veggie, near vegan, so we started with that dietary platform,” her nutrition coach at the time, Jackie Keller, told Huffington Post.

After the film, she went full vegan, became one of the lifestyle’s most enthusiastic proponents, and even had a vegan menu at her wedding.
