Watch These Bodybuilders Channel the Power of Grayskull in a He-Man<\/em>-Inspired Workout
Hudson and Brandon White, better known as YouTuber duo the Buff Dudes, regularly post videos where they emulate some of their action idols, from The Rock and Jackie Chan, to cartoon characters like One Punch Man. In their latest workout, they return to the world of animated television, transforming their home gym into Castle Grayskull and training like they imagine He-Man (née Prince Adam) might.
Arguably the most jacked animated heroes of all time, Brandon even jokes that He-Man action figures were probably as warping to young boys’ body image as Barbie dolls have been accused of being for girls. “That’s some unrealistic expectations right there,” he says.
The brothers start the workout with a single arm shoulder press. “It’s very much like when He-Man grabs his sword and says ‘I have the power!’ and he holds it up,” says Hudson. “It’s just a He-Man move, so we’ve got to work on that motion.”
Next up is the incline bench press, the single arm dumbbell chest press, and a “giant set to build a giant body”: shoulder presses, supersetted with dips and shrugs. “You have to have symmetry,” says Brandon. “You’re a superhero, you’re a badass, you’re He-Man.”
“I think we’re ready for the live-action He-Man movie,” he continues at the end of the workout. “Dolph Lundgren, sorry bud. The Buff Dudes are taking over.”
To anybody who grew up watching cartoons in the ’80s and ’90s, He-Man is an iconic character—and he is about to reach a whole new generation in the Masters of the Universe reboot on Netflix, which drops on July 23.
