In the prime of his running career, Ryan Hall made history by setting American speed records in both the half and full marathon. Now retired from pro running, Hall, 38, is hoping to inspire people by covering a much shorter distance—and at a much, much slower pace.
In his latest Instagram post, the former Olympian shared a video of his latest fitness stunt, which involved doing a one-mile farmer’s walk while hauling 195 pounds, the equivalent of his bodyweight. In the brief clip, Hall is shown at a local track, hoisting a trap bar with several weight plates on either side while clad in a black tank top showing off his gains.
In the post’s caption, Hall says he completed all four laps around the track in an impressive 25:42, which the video shows included several short breaks to catch his breath. By the end, he collapses across the finish line, exhausted.
“I came up with this challenge while doing some water jug farmer carries in the forest and was dying to give it a go,” he wrote. “So here is my first attempt.”
Hall also added that it’s unclear if anyone else has ever attempted the stunt, which means it could be an unverified world record.
Regardless of its status in the record books, the Farmer’s Carry Challenge is just the latest display of strength from Hall, who has undergone a significant strength transformation since his running days, packing on more than 40 pounds of muscle.
In one of his more recent progress updates, Hall revealed that he can now deadlift more than 500 pounds and bench 330.

Hall concluded the post by tagging several other athletes to take on the challenge, including fellow retired pro runner and former Olympian Nick Symmonds, bodybuilder Nick Bare, entrepreneur Brian Mazza, and several others.
Given the fitness credentials of those three alone, however, it might not be long before Hall’s unofficial “record” is in trouble.
