Here\u2019s How Music Legend Bruce Springsteen Stays in Shape at 71 Years Old
There are few rock stars with the longevity and ongoing relevance of Bruce Springsteen. From continuing to put out new music, to telling off the president, The Boss is still very much a part of our cultural landscape—and at the age of 71, he looks great.
In a conversation with his good friend and fellow musician Tim McGraw for Apple Music, Springsteen spoke about his creative process, his 50-year-long history with the E Street Band, and his most recent album and documentary, both entitled Letter to You. He also shared the habits he’s built into his lifestyle that help him still stay in Boss shape at the age of 71.
The biggest thing is diet, diet, diet. I don’t eat too much, and I don’t eat bad food, except for every once in a while when I want to have some fun for myself. So I think anybody that’s trying to get in shape, exercise is always important of course, but diet is 90 percent of the game.”
And while he may have been ‘Born to Run’, Springsteen prefers a more leisurely pace when it comes to his physical activity these days. “I don’t do that much right now,” he said. “I lift a little weight to stay toned, I may get on the treadmill. I walk, I don’t run anymore.”
The two men also alluded to a story involving an incident on a treadmill, which Springsteen declined to share with viewers, other than to say: “If anybody’s come off a treadmill at about 60 miles per hour, that’s what happened to me.”
