Miley Cyrus Brought the '80s Back With a Sky-High Fauxhawk
These days, it's all about the 1970s. Center-parted shags cuts, wide-legged jumpsuits, and rollerskating mania reign supreme on social media — but if Miley Cyrus's latest hairstyle is anything to go by, that's all about to change. On July 5, the singer revealed snapshots from a performance at Resorts World Las Vegas featuring a very (and literally) big hair moment. During the performance, Cyrus paired her low-cut leather ensemble and graphic black cat-eye with a sky-high fauxhawk.
Her straightened hair, undoubtedly coated in extra-strong-hold hairspray, lies flat against her neck in the back but the front sticks up totally straight in the front and on the sides, coming to a point at the very top. In other words, she looks less like a pop star in 2021 and more like she belongs on the hood of a car in a Poison music video. It's unclear who's responsible for the style in question, but regardless, on Cyrus, it just looks right.

We've said it time and time again, but all trends are cyclical. The clothes, makeup, and hairstyles of the 1970s are definitely having a comeback right now, but Cyrus's fauxhawk might just mark the beginning of a new 1980s renaissance. It might be high time to put away the pastel eye shadows and reach out for smokey black shadows again. Or trade our mullets in for gravity-defying curls and thick, feathered bangs. All those bellbottom pants might soon make way for neon spandex, who knows? When presented like this on Cyrus, that vision is certainly tempting.
