Watch Ronda Rousey Demonstrate How to Defend Yourself in a Zombie Apocalypse

Ronda Rousey may have left the world of professional fighting behind in favor of her acting career, but there’s no doubt that if the end of days were to ever arrive, you’d definitely want her on your team.

In a recent judo tutorial video on her YouTube channel, Rousey demonstrates an off-the-grip attack drill which is ideal for defending yourself against an assailant who might approach you with their arms outstretched. This kind of move is doubly useful, as it can also be deployed to fend off the walking dead, should you ever find yourself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Which is admittedly unlikely, but let’s be honest; after everything we’ve all been through over the last year, it’s surely better to be prepared for any eventuality.

In the video, martial arts coach Ricky Lundell advances with his zombie arms held out, and Rousey talks through how and when to make your move. “I pick my moment, when he’s entered my space, when it’s the best time for me to turn and throw,” she says, explaining that it’s important to find the right attacking distance in order for the manoeuver to be effective.

The video is part of an ongoing series, which Rousey refers to as her online dojo, in which she imparts her martial arts knowledge for self-defense purposes. And there’s plenty of expertise there. It’s easy to forget amid all of her other accomplishments, but prior to her UFC and WWE career, Rousey earned a bronze medal in judo at the Olympics back in 2008.
