Jillian Michaels Just Shared A Throwback Photo Of Herself Weighing 175 Pounds

  • Jillian Michaels just shared a photo of her 175-pound self on Instagram.
  • The throwback photo comes after the trainer commented about singer Lizzo’s weight and caused a firestorm on Twitter.
  • Jillian encouraged her followers to share their own story.

A week after her body-shaming controversy, fitness superstar and TV trainer Jillian Michaels is reminding followers that she struggled with her own weight in the past. She shared an almost unrecognizable throwback photo of herself, captioned: “Here’s me at 5’0 tall and 175 lbs. If I can do it – anyone can. Share your story…”

In 2019, Jillian opened up to Women’s Health about her weight loss journey, and how she finally changed her relationship with food for the better.”I was definitely on the chubbier side growing up, but I hit my heaviest weight around age 13, when I was about 170 pounds (I’m 117 now, for reference),” she said. “I used food as comfort, but I also used it as a way to relate to my dad—he was overweight too, so we bonded over food a lot.”

Jillian started working out when her mother signed her up for martial arts classes to help her work through her parents’ divorce, though it took until her thirties (she’s 45 now) to eat healthy.

ICYMI: Last week, while appearing on BuzzFeed’s AM to DM webshow, Jillian commented on singer Lizzo’s body. “Why are we celebrating her body?” Jillian said. “Why does it matter? That’s what I’m saying. Like why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t gonna be awesome if she gets diabetes…I’m just being honest. I love her music, my kid loves her music, but there’s never a moment when I’m like, ‘I’m so glad she’s overweight.’ Why do I even care? Why is it my job to care about her weight?”

Twitter wasn’t happy with her comments, and Jillian received a firestorm of backlash for her remarks. Later in the week, she doubled down on her comments to People, attributing the backlash to the culture of body positivity.

“I think what has happened is that we have fat-shamed people for so long that now, the pendulum is swinging back,” she said. “Honestly, it’s like saying okay, you’re an alcoholic, bravo, here’s a vodka tonic. You don’t judge somebody, you don’t exclude them, you include them, you support them, or by the way, mind your own business.”

Lizzo has yet to respond to the controversy.
