How to lose weight and get toned fast when the heat impacts your workouts

A heatwave shouldn’t have to interfere with your weight loss journey, but the boiling weather is sure to have an impact on your workouts.

It’s important to exercise safely in the sunshine, so Daily Star Online has spoken to a personal trainer for some advice.

David Wiener has revealed to us exclusively his tips for burning belly fat in the heatwave, so you can exercise safely.

“It’s also really important to remember that the heat will affect your workout”

DO: Forget your PB

Exercising in the hot weather puts extra strain on the body, so it’s really important to know your limits.

David suggests reducing or completely stopping training whenever you feel unwell.

He said: “It’s also really important to remember that the heat will affect your workout.

“So don’t push yourself too hard, and take regular breaks so that your body can cool down.”

DON’T: Forget to hydrate

We are told to drink between six to eight glasses of water each day, which equates to around two litres.

But during the summer months, try to up your water intake to about 10 glasses each day if you’re exercising, which will properly hydrate your body.

David said: “If you’re doing moderate exercise for less than an hour, water should be fine to ensure you do not become dehydrated, but anything more intense will require an isotonic sports drink to guarantee you’re replenishing your body properly.

“It’s also a good idea to carry a cloth which you can dampen to cool your head and neck.”

DO: Switch up your workout

Make sure you swap your long run for interval training or circuits.

This type of training will allow you more rest, so that your body can cool down.

“If possible, try to workout in shaded areas which will offer you more protection from the sun and take the edge off heat and humidity,” David explained.

DON’T: Forget SPF

This is important as you should be protecting your exposed skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

If space in your bag is at a minimum, David suggests trying the Theye’s trio of micro sprays which includes a sunscreen with SPF 30, a natural insect repellent, and a hand sanitiser.
