You Have to See Misty Copeland Help Estée Lauder Announce This Foundation Shade Expansion

Misty Copeland has broken down incredible barriers in ballet. The first black woman to be named principal dancer for American Ballet Theatre, she makes perfect sense as the person Estée Lauder would tap her to help announce that its already-impressive range of Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup shades will be expanding even further from 42 to a remarkable 56.

"It can be challenging, yes, but I'm relieved that's no longer the case," Copeland told PopSugar of the difficulties women of color have had when it comes to finding inclusive shades of complexion makeup."Our differences are to be celebrated and embraced. The beauty industry making this shift is all positive. Inclusivity is the gateway to equality and I will always be a champion of that approach."

One of the way she's doing that is by appearing in a new video called "Confidence is Beautiful," released by Estée Lauder on Friday. In it, she's seen dancing while wearing headphones and attending a ballet class with her fellow ABT dancers. "I tend to want to be really fresh and natural. It’s nice to have a foundation you can build off of but stays on, so that I can go from morning to night," she says while sitting at one of the backstage mirrors, where she does her own makeup for performances. "I’ve always felt that it’s OK to be different and it’s OK to be me, and even with the foundation that I’m using that I‘m staying true to my skin and my color and I want to look like me, and I think that’s beautiful."

In addition to having a growing shade range, Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup is already known for not giving a grayish tint to darker skin tones like some other foundations can. Additionally, it promises 24-hour wear in a matte finish, and the oil-free formula help control shine without feeling heavy.

Copeland, who wears shade 4W1 Honey Bronze, has been an Estée Lauder spokesperson since last year, has appeared in the brand's ad campaign for the Modern Muse fragrance. This campaign for Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation, an Allure Best of Beauty winner, marks the first time she's promoting the brand's makeup — but hopefully not the last.
